Hampsfell. 19 February

A short walk on a misty day. We started in Grange-over-Sands, taking the Hampsfell Road, passing Hampsfell House Hotel, and carrying on upwards along the increasingly rougher road until coming to a path crossroads. The track we were on continued past High Farm, however we took the track to our right.

A short way down this track we went through a gate and then took a path to our left signposted to the Hospice. As the path climbed, so the visibility dropped.

Passing areas of limestone pavement, the Hospice eventually appeared out of the mist. There would normally be some spectacular views from on top of this structure, but not today!

We then took the path heading roughly north, before turning right at the path junction and heading back down into Eggerslack Wood. Near the concrete water tanks we took the track that led back to Hampsfell Road and then down to Grange-over-Sands.

One to return to on a clear day!
