Little Langdale and Great How. 11 February

The walk started from the centre of Elterwater on a slightly overcast morning with some light rain in the air.

We took the road out of the village, passing the Youth Hostel before turning right towards Elterwater Hall. The path led upwards, heading towards Little Langdale. Passing the gate leading onto Lingmoor Fell, we could see cloud across the snow capped Wetherlam ahead, with Little Langdale Tarn below.

The road led alongside the tarn, before another path at Fell Foot Bridge took us back around the other side of the tarn, whilst the road continued up onto Wrynose Pass.

Our path took us under Great Intake on Low Fell, passing Low Hall Garth and Stang End before we took the path off to Great How. The summit views weren’t as clear as they could be due to the misty weather; however it was quite atmospheric – as well as very windy on top. However, it was a nice vantage point, and we found a bit of shelter out of the wind to have a drink of coffee.

The path then took us off the other side of Great How and back onto another minor road. This led us to High Park where we took the path into the woods and down to Colwith Force waterfalls. Coming out of the woods, we took the road back to Elterwater village.
