Ambleside and Rydal. 22 August

From Ambleside we followed the Under Loughrigg road towards Pelter Bridge, the river Rothay to the right of the road was very full from the recent heavy rains, with flooding in some of the fields and no sign of the stepping stones.

We took the road just before the bridge that leads to the south shore of Rydal Water. The higher path led-up to the “caves”, before dropping down eventually to the shore of Grasmere.

The lower path led back along the south shore of Rydal Water, crossing at the south-east end via a footbridge. Crossing the A591, we went past the church and then by Rydal Hall. The track by Rydal Park led back to the main road and then into Ambleside.
