For a bit of a change, we travelled into the walk using the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, or “La’al Ratty”. You certainly get a good helping of fresh air when travelling in the open carriages!
This was just going to be a short walk in between train journeys, so from Dalegarth station we took a nearby track passing Esk View farm where we could see St Catherine’s Church across tbe field.
The track took us to the River Esk, which we crossed and followed upstream for a while before heading towards Low Birker farm where we took the track leading to Doctor Bridge. We then followed tracks and the road back to the station as the rain came down again.
