Bolton Abbey. 8 August

This was a nice walk alongside the River Wharfe and around the Bolton Abbey Estate.

We started the walk at the Riverside car park, following the river upstream, stopping at the Strid where the river is funnelled through a narrow gorge – although the river wasn’t too high, it was still impressive.

The path then led along the river, where we crossed at Barden Bridge and rejoined on the opposite bank – where it meets the Dales Way. The walk was then along a number of higher-level woodland paths, with occasional glimpses of the river below through the foliage.

The Priory and stepping stones then appeared, which marked the crossing over the river, and eventually back to the car. The walk was about 8 miles, and a nice, relatively flat round trip.
