The Old Man of Coniston. 5 June

The walk started near to the Sun Inn, initially following the steep quarry road up to the gate where it became more of a track. We continued along the Walna Scar Road before branching off and taking the path towards Goat’s Water.

There were great views of Dow Crag, and some climbers could be seen on its face. The path continued past Goat’s Water rising steeply to Goat’s Hawse.

The path then led to the summit. The weather was very warm again, and a haze obscured some of the views.

The start back down started steeply, but led nicely to Low Water and then through old quarry workings and past waterfalls leading back eventually to the Sun Inn.
